Why actually?

I’m not the first and I certainly won’t be the last to ride the route I’ve planned or something similar. I won’t be the fastest and no, I won’t make the 9th Netflix documentary about my tour. I’m doing this tour because I want to do it. I’m trying not to compare myself with anyone else.
The idea came into my head many years ago through my big brother Lucas. That day, we were standing together in the living room in Brühl and Lucas showed me a video on YouTube of a man who had cycled from north to south through the whole of Africa. And as enthusiastic as my brother is and as enthusiastic as my other brother Benedikt and I are, we were quickly hooked. Back then, our idea was to set off in 2020 after my bachelor’s degree. And as you might remember right now, 2020 wasn’t exactly the best year to travel.
Well, even if it had been, we probably wouldn’t have started anyway. The idea quickly got lost in the chaos of everyday life and the many plans and ideas that shaped our lives and slowly dissolved. But not quite for me… One of us needed to stay a little bit crazy and in this case it is was and is me. And I know my brothers probably would tell another story but from my perspective, I’m fulfilling the dream of all three of us. I think the fascination also remained with my brothers, but the excitement wasn’t big enough to commit for such a big project. Still, they probably both are going to accompany me for a while, which I am really looking forward to and am very grateful for!

In 2022, I set off on my first major bike trip from Cologne to Istanbul. The trip was an incredibly great experience for me and a wonderful time! I was on the road for almost 2 months and gained an a lot of experience. Sometimes together with my fellow travellers and sometimes alone. In the last post you can find some expressions of that trip. One thing was certain for me after the tour, it wouldn’t be my last tour. In this way, the idea of travelling from the Cape Town in South Africa to the North Cape in Norway grew. The wish became more and more of a real idea and finally a plan. And this plan is now becoming a trip.
